Ten years ago, the term "permalancing" didn't even exist. Today, many workers are finding that self-employment as a freelance or contract consultant is a lucrative, more flexible, even more secure career path.
Statistics from Adecco staffing firm indicate that employment of temporary workers will occur at three to four times the rate of traditional full-time employees. According to a study by another staffing firm, Yoh, conducted early this year, 81 percent of executives expect staffing levels to remain the same or increase over the next 12 months, and the firm believes that due to continually tight financing, companies will look to permalancers to fill these positions.
