President Obama’s Clean Power Plan, electricity prices, and a lack of financial incentives are just some of the issues that many feel are working against the U.S. nuclear industry. There have been recent reports painting a negative picture of future operations of nuclear power plants like Entergy’s Indian Point in New York, and Exelon’s Clinton and Quad Cities in Illinois. Some lawmakers are calling for the closure of these plants. Despite all the presumed doom and gloom, many others in the industry say that nuclear power will continue to be an important and necessary part of the U.S. electricity mix , especially if that includes an increased need for clean and reliable energy.
