James McDonald Elected to North American Contractors Association Board

James McDonald, Director of Union Labor Relations for Day & Zimmermann’s (D&Z) Maintenance and Construction division, has been elected to serve on the North American Contractors Association (NACA) Board of Directors. The appointment is a three-year term.

NACA represents the management side of the union construction industry, working in partnership with North American Building Trades to administer and maintain the National Construction Agreement (NCA). The NCA serves as a national labor framework for large-scale construction projects to ensure consistency, coordination, and alignment between contractors and labor unions across complex, multi-site projects.

james-mcdonaldJames was unanimously elected by his peers to the North American Contractors Association executive board due directly to his leadership, perspective, and industry insight,” said Rob Branyan, NACA Chair and Vice President Field Operations, BOLDT. “He is an asset not only to our organization but also to the union construction industry as a whole as he understands the tripartite partnership of union, contractor, and owner.

At Day & Zimmermann, McDonald provides coordination across all levels of union organizations — from international leadership to local trades — ensuring alignment between labor policy and field execution and fostering strong relationships with union leadership. He brings more than a decade of experience in nuclear maintenance and construction operations, with a strong foundation in managing complex, union-driven environments. Throughout his career, McDonald has been deeply engaged in advancing union labor partnerships, workforce development, and operational excellence across the power generation and construction sectors.

McDonald’s involvement in NACA helps Day & Zimmermann ensure labor agreements that govern major construction projects align with current industry requirements and modern project needs, translating into more efficient execution and well-coordinated labor environments for our customers.

“James knows this business inside and out, and he’s earned the respect of the people he works with. said Tom Ensminger, Vice President of Labor Relations. “He’ll be a strong voice on the NACA board and a solid contributor where it counts. We’re pleased to see him take on this role and congratulate him on the appointment.”
