Recognizing Women’s Equality Day

History of Women’s Equality Day

August 26th is recognized as “Women’s Equality Day” nationwide. Thanks to Representative Bella Abzug in 1971, this day has been a commemoration of the 19th Amendment – giving women the right to vote. Over time, the day has grown to celebrate and recognize all advancements in women’s rights and equality in all aspects.

How to Observe and Celebrate

There are both formal and informal ways to recognize this day. Check your local offerings for educational programs about women’s history, recognition of notable women throughout history, and more. You can also utilize this time to honor and recognize individuals and organizations (such as D&Z) that are committed to the advancement of women’s rights and gender / sexual equality.

The battle for equality continues with women being paid $0.85 for every dollar a man is, and less than 1/3 of leadership roles are held by women. At D&Z we want to utilize this day to recognize the contributions and achievements of all our teammates and continue to be a leader in workplace equality and inclusion. We wouldn’t be who we are (and we couldn’t do what we say) without all of you!
