Day & Zimmermann Veterans Employee Resource Group Partners with Wreaths Across America

295 Remembrance Wreaths Sponsored in Honor of Fallen Heroes

PHILADELPHIA, PA – DECEMBER 18, 2018 – Day & Zimmermann (D&Z), the century-old, family-owned provider of construction & engineering, staffing and defense solutions for leading corporations and governments around the world, announced today its successful launch and participation in Wreaths Across America (WAA), an organization committed to remembering fallen U.S. veterans, honoring those who serve and teaching children the value of freedom.

Day & Zimmermann’s Veteran’s Employee Resource Group (VERG) collected 295 wreaths for this year’s National Wreaths Across America Day on Dec. 15. More than 100 D&Z volunteers remembered and honored fallen heroes by laying remembrance wreaths on their graves at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.,Hampton National Cemetery in Hampton, Va., Philadelphia National Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pa., and Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, Va., along with several other veteran cemeteries throughout the United States.

“As a company that works closely with the U.S. Military, Day & Zimmermann is extremely proud to support Wreaths Across America in their mission,” said Steve Selfridge, President, Government Services at Day & Zimmermann. “The Veteran’s Employee Resource Group generated an incredible amount of awareness for this partnership and received overwhelming support from our dedicated staff members and volunteers.”

WAA began in 1992 in Harrington, Maine, when the Worcester Wreath Company turned a surplus of 5,000 holiday wreaths into an opportunity to honor veterans. With the help of former Maine Senator Olympia Snowe, the company’s owner, Morrill Worcester, arranged for the wreaths to be placed at Arlington National Cemetery, paying tribute to fallen heroes. For the past 26 years, the event has grown exponentially.

“Day & Zimmermann is a first time supporter of the Wreaths across America program, and we are incredibly thankful to all of those who sponsored a wreath, volunteered and spread awareness to friends and family,” said Gene Thompson, Director of Nuclear Projects at Day & Zimmermann and VERG Co-Chair. “We’re overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and support our employees have shown to help celebrate the legacy of the brave U.S. Armed Forces personnel and their families.”
