Company to begin workforce outreach, resume collection, and hiring activities ahead of planned December 29 transition

After more than 40 years of service to Hawthorne Army Depot and the surrounding community, Day & Zimmermann is proud to announce its return as the incoming prime contractor supporting depot operations.

Day & Zimmermann is actively preparing for the transition, working with the U.S. Army, employees, unions, partners—including Akima—and community leaders to establish a safe, capable, and sustainable operation for the future.

The planned transition period is scheduled to conclude on December 29, 2026. Additional onboarding, training, and transition activities will continue as needed to support the stand-up of operations.

“We are honored to return to Hawthorne and reconnect with the people who have made this community such an important part of our history,” said Rick Nesbitt, General Manager, Hawthorne, Day & Zimmermann. “Our commitment is to be present, to listen, and to follow through. We are looking forward to working with the depot, our employees, our partners, and the entire community as we build the future together.”

Upcoming Community Engagement

Day & Zimmermann representatives will be present at several community events this fall, including:

  • The Mt. Grant Challenge in September
  • A planned community Town Hall at the USO in September
  • The Hawthorne Rodeo in September

Town Hall details, including the date and time, will be announced separately.

These events will provide opportunities for residents, current employees, prospective applicants, and community members to meet Day & Zimmermann representatives, learn more about the transition, and ask questions.

Workforce Engagement and Hiring

Day & Zimmermann expects to begin expanded workforce engagement and recruiting activities in the coming months:

  • September: Community outreach, workforce engagement, and information-sharing activities
  • October: Resume collection, recruiting events, job fairs, and anticipated hiring activities
  • November: Continued hiring, onboarding, and transition-related activities
