Signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishes a framework for evaluating the integration of Defendica’s fuzing, initiation, and sensor technologies with U.S. munitions manufacturing capabilities

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — July 29, 2026—Day & Zimmermann Lone Star LLC , a subsidiary of Day & Zimmermann, and Defendica Systems Inc. (Defendica) today announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding establishing a framework for cooperation in defense technology development and integration.

Through the memorandum, the companies intend to explore opportunities that bring together Defendica’s fuzing, initiation, and sensor technologies with Day & Zimmermann’s U.S.-based munitions manufacturing, energetics, and load-assemble-pack capabilities.

Potential areas of cooperation include evaluating technical interoperability, establishing joint testing and validation protocols, and identifying pathways toward applicable U.S., NATO and allied qualification standards. The companies will also assess opportunities to support the development of safe, reliable and scalable solutions responsive to evolving operational needs.

“This memorandum brings together Defendica’s field-informed technology development with Day & Zimmermann’s greater than 100 years of experience supporting the U.S. military and allied nations,” said Brigadier General (Retired) John J. McGuiness, President of Day & Zimmermann Munitions & Government. “By working together early in the development process, we can evaluate how emerging fuzing, initiation, and sensor technologies may be integrated into safe, reliable and scalable solutions that strengthen the U.S. defense industrial base and support allied readiness.”

“Our engineering starts with a request from a unit in contact, and it ends with a system that unit actually uses,” said James B. Gamache, President and Co-Founder of Defendica Systems Inc. “Working with Day & Zimmermann lets us take that feedback loop and apply it at a scale and a standard our partners in NATO countries can build on.”

Gamache added, "Modern battlefields punish systems that were designed in isolation. This memorandum is about making sure initiation, integration, and delivery are engineered as one architecture rather than assembled as three separate assumptions."

The memorandum reflects both companies’ interest in combining complementary technology-development and manufacturing capabilities. Any future programs or products resulting from the cooperation would be subject to separate agreements, applicable regulatory requirements, customer approvals and qualification processes.
