Land transfer will allow Day & Zimmermann to continue ammunition production for Department of Defense contracts.
PHILADELPHIA, PA—September 1, 2010— Day & Zimmermann, a nationally recognized provider of industrial, defense and workforce solutions, announced today that it has completed the acquisition of approximately 5,500 acres at the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant (LSAAP) in Texarkana, Texas. Day & Zimmermann will use this property and associated facilities to continue munition production for the Department of Defense and defense prime contractors. Products manufactured at this facility include detonators, delays, relays, percussion artillery primers, hand grenades, and supplementary charges.
LSAAP was selected for closure as part of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program in 2005. Since that time, Day & Zimmermann has worked closely with both the U.S. Army and the local Red River Redevelopment Authority (RRRA) to negotiate the acquisition of a significant portion of the LSAAP property in order to continue the important munition and component production work the company has conducted there for close to 60 years. As part of the transaction, the remaining acreage was transferred to the RRRA for civilian reuse and the Army also retained a parcel.
"The completion of this acquisition is a significant step in our efforts to remain a leading provider of high-quality munition products," said Michael Yoh, President and CEO of Day & Zimmermann’s Munitions & Government unit. “This is an exciting time for our company as we look to the future with the expanded capabilities of a wholly-owned manufacturing facility and the opportunity to offer continued career growth to our valued employees in the Texarkana region.”
